GIFFORD BOWLING & SPORTS CLUB

The Gifford Bowling & Sports Club is situated beyond the bridge in Station Rd.

The roots of the club are to be found in Yester Estate & the Avenue where provision was made
for estate workers & villagers to play the game of bowls.
In 1901 the Marquis of Tweeddale donated the land in Station Rd. to establish a four rink green and clubhouse.
The green was extended after the floods of 1948 destroyed the nearby mill lade.

The club has enjoyed much national and local success and has found international repute thanks
largely to long time bowler Willie Wood MBE who has travelled throughout the world playing the
game he loves and was Gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games in both 1982 and 1990.
